Men's Sexual Confidence, Intimacy & Performance Anxiety.

When intimacy starts to feel like pressure rather than connection, it can affect far more than your sex life.

Many men experience difficulties with sexual confidence at some point in their lives. Whether you're struggling with performance anxiety, losing your erection during sex, erectile dysfunction (ED), premature ejaculation (PE), delayed ejaculation, delayed orgasm, relying on pornography, or simply finding yourself constantly overthinking during intimacy, you're certainly not alone.

Therapy provides a confidential, respectful and non-judgemental space to better understand what's happening, reduce shame and help you move towards calmer, more confident intimacy.

IT'S RARELY JUST ABOUT PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE

Understanding what’s really happening.

Many men understandably focus on what their body is doing.

Perhaps you've noticed you lose your erection during sex despite having no physical health concerns, struggle to stay hard with a partner, ejaculate sooner than you'd like, find it difficult to orgasm or feel increasingly anxious before intimacy.

It's easy to assume the problem is purely physical.

For many men, however, sexual confidence is influenced by far more than physical function alone.

Stress. Anxiety. Relationships. Previous experiences. Self-esteem. Attachment patterns. Fear of judgement. Body image. The pressure to "perform". Even the habit of constantly monitoring what's happening during sex can all influence how your mind and body respond.

Rather than viewing these experiences as something that's "wrong" with you, therapy provides an opportunity to understand them differently.

Together, we'll explore not only what's happening today, but also the experiences, beliefs and recurring patterns that may still be influencing your confidence, intimacy and relationships. By bringing those patterns into conscious awareness, greater choice becomes possible.

As an integrative and pluralistic counsellor and psychotherapist, I draw upon different therapeutic approaches depending on your individual needs. Alongside understanding how the past may still be informing the present, we can also work in a solution-focused way, helping you move towards the kind of intimate relationship you'd like to have. Where appropriate, we may also integrate Clinical Solution- Focused Hypnotherapy to help reduce performance anxiety, strengthen sexual confidence and support meaningful, lasting change.

If you're concerned your symptoms may have a physical or medical cause, I'd always recommend discussing them with your GP before beginning therapy.

SOME OF THE CONVERSATIONS WE MIGHT HAVE

Every man's experience is different.

No two men arrive in therapy for exactly the same reason.

Some are worried about losing an erection with a new or existing partner. Others have experienced erectile dysfunction (ED) for years despite medical reassurance. Some describe premature ejaculation (PE), delayed ejaculation, delayed orgasm (anorgasmia) or feel pornography has begun to affect their confidence or intimacy.

Whilst the experiences may look different, they're often connected by similar underlying themes. Below are some of the conversations that frequently arise in therapy.

Performance, Anxiety & Sexual Confidence.

Perhaps you lose your erection during sex, can't stay hard, worry about ejaculating too quickly, struggle to orgasm or find yourself constantly overthinking during intimacy. Instead of enjoying the moment, you may become focused on checking, monitoring and trying to stay in control.

Together, we'll explore the anxiety, beliefs and recurring patterns that may be maintaining this cycle, helping you build greater confidence, reduce performance anxiety and feel more present during intimacy.

Relationships, Intimacy & Connection.

Sex is rarely just about physical performance.

Trust, communication, emotional intimacy, attachment patterns, body image and previous experiences can all influence how safe, connected and confident we feel with another person.

Whether you're avoiding intimacy, worrying about disappointing your partner or finding anxiety has replaced enjoyment, therapy provides space to better understand yourself and build greater confidence in both your relationships and intimate life.

Understanding the Patterns.

Sexual confidence doesn't develop in isolation.

Stress, anxiety, shame, previous relationships, attachment patterns, criticism or difficult experiences can all shape how we think, feel and respond during intimacy. Together, we'll explore how past experiences may still be influencing the present, bringing unhelpful patterns into conscious awareness and helping you better understand yourself.

Understanding these patterns isn't about dwelling on the past. It's about recognising how they may still be influencing your confidence and relationships today, creating greater choice and helping you move towards calmer, more confident intimacy.

UNDERSTANDING PERFORMANCE ANXIETY

Why anxiety can affect sexual performance.

Many men describe feeling "stuck in their head" during sex.

Instead of being fully present, they find themselves checking whether they're still erect, worrying about ejaculating too quickly, wondering why they're taking longer to orgasm or comparing the experience with previous sexual encounters or pornography.

When the brain perceives a situation as threatening—even if that threat is simply fear of embarrassment, rejection or "getting it wrong"—it naturally prepares the body to protect itself. Stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol increase, making it much harder to relax, feel connected and respond sexually in the way you'd like.

The more we monitor, check and try to control what our body is doing, the more difficult it often becomes to simply enjoy intimacy. Over time, this can create a frustrating cycle where anxiety begins before intimacy has even started.

Nothing is "broken." Often, your mind and body are responding exactly as they're designed to.

How therapy can help.

Every man's experience is different. For some, anxiety sits at the centre of the difficulty. For others, relationship experiences, attachment patterns, shame, stress, pornography or previous experiences may all play a part.

Rather than simply trying to "fix" the problem, we'll work together to understand what's been happening, recognise the patterns that may still be influencing your confidence and relationships, and explore how you'd like things to be instead.

Drawing on a pluralistic approach, we may integrate counselling, solution-focused approaches and, where appropriate, Clinical Hypnotherapy to support meaningful and lasting change.

WHY CHOOSE TO WORK WITH ME

Lived experience. Professional understanding.

Hi, I'm Andrew (Andy)

A counsellor, psychotherapist and Clinical Solution-Focused Hypnotherapist supporting men with sexual confidence, performance anxiety and intimacy.

Many men tell me this is one of the hardest conversations they've ever had. They often spend months, or even years, trying to solve the problem on their own before reaching out for support.

My role isn't to judge or embarrass you. It's to provide a calm, respectful and confidential space where we can openly explore what's been happening, better understand the patterns that may be contributing and work towards the changes you'd like to experience.

Alongside my work as an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, I'm also trained in Clinical Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy. This allows us, where appropriate, to combine understanding with practical, forward-looking approaches that help reduce performance anxiety, strengthen sexual confidence and support meaningful, lasting change.

Whether your difficulties have developed recently or have been affecting you for years, you don't have to work through them alone.

Reflect. Understand. Move Forward.
