Men's Mental Health.

Counselling and psychotherapy for men navigating stress, relationships, work pressures, confidence and emotional wellbeing.

In Upper Heyford, near Bicester, Oxfordshire & Online

Many men seek counselling because life no longer feels how they want it to.

You might be juggling work pressures, family responsibilities, relationship difficulties or the expectation that you should simply "get on with it." From the outside, it may look as though you're coping, yet internally you feel overwhelmed, disconnected or unsure how to move forward.

Whether you're experiencing anxiety, low mood, burnout, anger, grief, relationship challenges or simply feel that something isn't quite right, counselling offers a confidential space to slow down, understand what's happening and begin making meaningful, lasting change.

UNDERSTANDING WHY IT CAN FEEL DIFFICULT TO ASK FOR HELP

Many men carry more than others realise.

Many men feel pressure to hold everything together, stay strong for the people around them or solve problems on their own.

From an early age, some men receive messages-spoken or unspoken-that they should cope independently, avoid showing vulnerability or simply "get on with it." Over time, those expectations can make it difficult to recognise when they're struggling, let alone feel comfortable asking for support.

It's not uncommon to hear men say they don't want to burden their family, worry about being judged or simply don't know where to start. Others describe feeling disconnected from their emotions, keeping themselves busy or believing they should be able to manage everything without help.

Many of these expectations can have a significant impact on men's mental health, affecting confidence, relationships, emotional wellbeing and the ability to ask for support when it's needed.

Talking about what's happening isn't a sign of weakness, and therapy isn't about taking away your resilience or changing who you are. Instead, it offers a confidential space to better understand yourself, recognise recurring patterns and explore what's been weighing on you, without pressure or judgement.

Sometimes the strongest thing we can do isn't carrying everything alone - it's allowing ourselves the opportunity to put some of that weight down.

COMMON EXPERIENCES

Common reasons men seek counselling.

Men come to counselling for many different reasons. Some arrive with a clear issue, whilst others simply know that something doesn't feel right anymore.

Below are some of the common experiences I support:

  • Feeling overwhelmed, anxious or emotionally exhausted.

  • Work pressures, burnout or difficulty switching off.

  • Relationship difficulties or separation.

  • Low confidence, self-esteem or self-criticism.

  • Feeling emotionally disconnected from yourself or others.

  • Difficult life experiences that continue to affect you.

  • Anger, frustration or finding emotions difficult to express.

  • Grief, loss or significant life changes.

  • Changes in confidence, intimacy or relationship closeness.

  • Feeling stuck, uncertain or lacking direction.

  • Questioning your identity, purpose or what comes next.

  • Simply feeling that life isn't how you want it to be.

WORKING TOGETHER

A therapeutic approach build around you.

I'm a qualified counsellor, psychotherapist and clinical solution-focused hypnotherapist. I work in an integrative and pluralistic way, tailoring therapy around you rather than expecting you to fit a particular approach.

Before retraining as a therapist, I spent more than twenty years working in senior HR, leadership, recruitment and business roles. During that time, I worked with people at every stage of their careers -from those just starting out to senior leaders, business owners and professionals carrying significant responsibility. This experience gives me an understanding of many of the pressures men can face through work, relationships, responsibility and the expectation to simply keep going.

As a male therapist, I also recognise that many men can find therapy unfamiliar or even uncomfortable at first. You don't need to know exactly what to say, have everything figured out or arrive with a clear explanation for how you're feeling. Therapy moves at your pace.

My role isn't to tell you what to do or who you should become. Instead, I offer a calm, respectful and confidential space where you can talk openly without judgement, better understand yourself and explore what's really happening beneath the surface.

Together, we'll work towards developing greater self-awareness, recognising recurring patterns and helping you move forward in a way that feels authentic, meaningful and sustainable for you.

Ready to take the first step?

If you've found your way to this page, there's a good chance you've recognised something in your own experience.

You may already know what you'd like support with, or perhaps you're simply looking for a therapist whose approach feels right for you.

The first step is to book an Initial Consultation. This is a 50–60 minute appointment where we'll explore what has brought you to therapy, discuss what you're hoping to gain from counselling, and answer any questions you may have. It's also an opportunity for us both to consider whether my way of working feels like the right fit.

As an integrative and pluralistic counsellor and psychotherapist, I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Therapy is tailored to you, your experiences, your strengths and your goals.

There is no pressure or obligation to continue afterwards. If we both feel we're the right fit to work together, we'll agree a plan for ongoing therapy at a pace that feels right for you.
