Young Adults, Further Education, University & Life Transitions.
Supporting young adults as they navigate university, further education, the transition into work and adult life.
In Upper Heyford, near Bicester, Oxfordshire & Online.
Growing up doesn't always feel how people imagine it will.
Whether you're preparing to leave home, settling into university, continuing into further education, starting your first job or simply trying to figure out where life is heading next, these transitions can feel exciting, overwhelming and uncertain all at the same time.
Many young people first meet me through Clinical Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, often during A-Levels for exam stress, anxiety or confidence. As life changes, the challenges often change too. Some continue working with me through counselling as they move into university, further education or their first professional role, providing continuity of support during one of life's biggest transitions.
Counselling provides a confidential space to better understand yourself, make sense of what you're experiencing and move through this stage of life with greater confidence and clarity.
FROM EXAMS TO ADULT LIFE
Supporting young people through every stage of their journey.
Many teenagers and young people first meet me through Clinical Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, often during A-Levels, for support with exam stress, anxiety, confidence, overthinking and feeling overwhelmed.
As life changes, the challenges often change too. Some continue working with me as they move into university, college, further education or their first job, where counselling and psychotherapy (and hypnotherapy) provides the opportunity to better understand themselves whilst continuing to move forward with confidence.

NAVIGATING CHANGE
One chapter ends. Another begins.
School often provides structure, routine and familiarity.
University, further education and the workplace often expect you to create that structure for yourself.
For many young adults, this is the first time they've had to organise their own time, manage deadlines independently, build new friendships, live away from home or make important decisions about the future. If you are neurodivergent i.e ADHD, or simply thrive with structure, these changes can sometimes feel even more noticeable.
Many parents tell me their son or daughter seemed to cope well at school, only to struggle once that structure disappeared.
Counselling and talking therapy isn't about having all the answers. It's about creating space to better understand yourself, navigate change and develop confidence in the person you're becoming.
FOR PARENTS
Watching your son or daughter struggle can be incredibly difficult.
Whether they're preparing to leave home, settling into university or finding the transition into adult life harder than expected, many parents simply want to know they're being supported by someone who understands.
Counselling provides your son or daughter with a confidential space to explore what they're experiencing whilst offering reassurance that they're receiving compassionate, professional support during an important stage of life.
For young people aged 16–17, I also offer Clinical Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, often supporting exam stress, anxiety, confidence and preparing for A-Levels and other important milestones.
SOME OF THE CONVERSATIONS WE MIGHT HAVE
Every transition is different.
No two young adults arrive in therapy for exactly the same reason.
Some are preparing to leave home. Others are struggling to settle at university, feeling overwhelmed by deadlines, questioning their confidence or finding the transition into work harder than they expected.
Below are some of the conversations that often arise in therapy.
University, Further Education, Independence & New Beginnings.
Moving away from home, homesickness, settling into university or college, living with housemates, finding your place, building friendships, managing your time, organisation, deadline overwhelm, procrastination and adjusting to a very different way of living and learning.
Together, we'll explore what's making this transition feel difficult, helping you build confidence, resilience and a stronger sense of belonging.
Confidence, Pressure & Finding Your Feet.
Academic pressure, comparison, perfectionism, fear of failure, imposter syndrome, overthinking, anxiety, low confidence and the pressure to feel as though you should already have life figured out.
Together, we'll explore the patterns beneath these experiences, helping you build greater confidence and trust in yourself.
Graduation, Work & Adult Life.
Finishing university / further education, starting your first professional role, career uncertainty, increased responsibility, workplace confidence, balancing expectations, feeling "behind" or unsure about the future.
Therapy provides space to better understand yourself whilst navigating one of life's biggest transitions with greater clarity and confidence.
EXPERIENCE MATTERS
Hi, I'm Andrew (Andy)
Supporting young adults through education, university and the transition into working life.
Before becoming an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, I spent over twenty years working in senior HR, talent and leadership roles, supporting graduates, coaching professionals and helping people navigate some of the biggest transitions in their careers.
I also understand these transitions personally, having experienced university, continued into further education and built a career across both corporate leadership and self-employment.
That combination means I understand not only the emotional challenges many young adults experience, but also the changing expectations of education, graduate recruitment and the modern workplace.
My role isn't to tell you what career to choose or what decisions to make. It's to help you better understand yourself, build confidence and move forward in a way that feels right for you.
Reflect. Understand. Move Forward.

A few things you may be wondering…
-
Yes. Moving away from home is one of the biggest life transitions many young adults experience. Whilst feeling homesick is completely normal, for some people it can begin to affect confidence, friendships, motivation or their enjoyment of university life. Counselling provides a confidential space to explore these feelings, develop coping strategies and build confidence as you settle into your new environment.
-
Many students compare themselves to others and assume they're the only one finding university difficult. In reality, many people experience anxiety, loneliness, overwhelm or self-doubt during this transition. Together, we'll explore what's contributing to these feelings, helping you better understand yourself and build confidence in your own journey rather than comparing yourself to everyone else.
-
Yes. Feeling overwhelmed by coursework, deadlines or managing your own time is incredibly common, particularly during the transition from school to university. For some people, ADHD or executive functioning differences may also play a part. Rather than simply focusing on productivity, counselling explores the thoughts, emotions and patterns that may be making it difficult to get started or stay organised.
-
Absolutely. Leaving education and entering the workplace can bring uncertainty, increased responsibility and pressure to know what you're doing. Therapy provides space to explore confidence, imposter syndrome, career worries and the transition into professional life, helping you feel more prepared and self-assured as you move forward.

Counselling provides space to explore your experiences, understand recurring patterns and make sense of what's happening in your life. Clinical Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines solution-focused therapy with hypnosis to help reduce anxiety, build confidence and support positive change. For young people aged 16–17, I primarily offer Clinical Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. From 18 onwards, counselling becomes available, and where appropriate, we can also integrate hypnotherapy into our work together.
